Cocaine and MDMA are circulated in high-profile parties. “The peddlers, who seem like any other party goers keep their eye on big spenders and subtly approach them. But regular users have their fixed dealers and the transaction happens in regular parties. One gram of MDMA is enough for three people, whose cost is shared,” said a party organiser. The thing with stars and celebrities are that they do not interact with the peddlers directly.
It’s the member of the entourage and the members of the staff that get the stuff from them. An assistant director, who did not want to be named, said, that most of the people in the industry have access to ganja.
Once the peddler knows that you have contacts, they start pushing hard drugs. Insiders claim that Chennai isn’t untouched and it’s the younger generation that is increasingly using hard drugs in their weekend parties.
“Everything is available on the internet. With the popularity of cryptocurrency in the dark web, people can buy it online. All kinds of drugs are available and the peddlers make sure that they are delivered,” said a source on conditions of anonymity.
The hard drugs popular in the city are cocaine (available for Rs5,0006,000 a gram), Methylenedioxymethamphetamine, popularly known as MDMA or Molly (available for Rs 5000-6000 a gram), ecstasy and Mephedrone (popularly called white Magic and meow meow).
