Parties hail European Court’s verdict on LTTE

VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan, in a statement, said that the verdict would be a turning point. The Sri Lankan government would cleverly persuade the other countries to include LTTE in the terrorism list, after which all the countries were against such organisation. 

“In such a condition, the European court has promulgated unprecedented verdict by removing the LTTE from the terror organisations. 

And the European Union should accept this judgment and remove it permanently from the list,” he said and added that this was the right opportunity to gather Tamils for supporting the cause of Tamil Eelam. 

Similarly, general secretary of the MDMK,Vaiko, said, “A day has dawned for the LTTE at the international court. In 1991, the Indian government banned the LTTE, despite pressure from the state government. 

Now, the government should respect the European Court of Justice and  lift the ban.” “The verdict was a clear indication that persons, who were responsible for genocide of Lankan Tamils would be punished,” Vaiko added. 

Stating that there would be a solution for the genocide victims, the MDMK general secretary said, this would be a shot in the arm for people, who were striving hard for Tamil Eelam and till justice was done to the victims of the war. 

Meanwhile, the PMK urged the government to lift the ban on LTTE here. Founder-president of the party S Ramadoss said, “This is a historical judgment and a big success for those, who are struggling for Tamil Eelam. 

Further, it has been 26 years since Indian government banned the LTTE.” Considering the verdict, the government should remove the LTTE from the terrorist organisations list, he demanded.
