Sathyabama varsity confers honorary doctorate on DRDO chairman
Sathyabama University held its 26th convocation on Saturday at the University auditorium, where around 3,000 students received their degrees.

Dr S Christopher, Chairman, DRDO and Secretary Defence R&D, was the chief guest and he was also awarded honorary doctorate for his contributions in the field of science.
Speaking to reporters before the event, he said, “The national memorial of Abdul Kalam has been built on a par with international standard. It is currently under the control of DRDO. Soon a society will be formed and the memorial will be handed over to it. In the second phase, a permanent exhibition, covering various facets of his life as a technocrat and the president will be put up. To attract children and youth and to convey his message of igniting young minds, two life-size statues of him will be placed. The message that the memorial aims at conveying is that anybody with hard work can scale heights and even become the president of the country. There is no entrance fee to the memorial, which will be open till 10 pm.”
Apart from S Christopher, Dr V Narayanan, Associate Director, LPSC & Project Director C25 Cryogenic Project, Dr VR Lalithambika, Outstanding Scientist, Deputy Director, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, ISRO and J Ajeeth Prasath Jain, Senior Principal, Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidyashram, were awarded honorary doctorates for their valuable contribution for the progress of society and thereby the nation.
Col. Dr Jeppiaar Award for excellence in research was given to Dr Suman from Science and Humanities for his research accomplishments.
This year 2,392 undergraduates, 284 post graduates and 96 undergraduates belonging to the department of Dental Surgery and 58 Ph.D. scholars received their degrees. Among them, 32 students were awarded with gold medals for their exemplary performance.
