Slap Goondas Act on accused in Tiruvannamalai Dalit murder case: NGO

A Dalit youth was reportedly murdered at Puliyarampakkam near Cheyyar in Tiruvannamalai district recently who questioned a group of more than 50 Caste Hindus.

Kathir, Executive Director, Evidence, an NGO based at Madurai, carried out an investigation at the spot and demanded the police to slap Goondas Act on all the accused.

The incident happened on July 21 when a group of Caste Hindu school students from Chellaperumpulimedu village had verbally abused Dalit students of Puliyarampakkam and Dalit students had retaliated by attacking the Caste Hindu students the next day.

This was followed by attack by both parties. Caste Hindus began attacking Dalits in the night, houses, bikes and properties were damaged. At that time, Venkatesan, his brother Adikesavan and their father Mathavan, were returning home from the market, when they were attacked and Venkatesan was murdered.

Kathir, who carried out investigation and said that Venkatesan was working in Chennai and had gone to his house on leave. Though he had no connection with the issue, he was murdered. The fight between school children was taken as enmity between two villages. The NGO demanded the government to book all the accused under Goondas Act and provide a government job for a family members of Venkatesan.
