Nandhidhaa, who hails from Padaveedu village, Pallathur in Namakkal district, had brought laurels to the state by winning silver medal in Asian Junior Girls Championship in May last year, besides performing well by winning the Commonwealth Chess Championship held during July and August the same year in Sri Lanka and the World Junior Chess Championships (for boys’ and girls’ Under-20) in Bhubaneswar.

“The state has been encouraging sports personalities, who bring laurels to the state in their disciplines at both national and international levels. We follow in the footsteps of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa by providing incentives to them. The state is also committed to identifying talents in various disciplines and making world class training available to them. This would help them reach greater heights and bring more laurels to the state,” Palaniswami said in a statement.

He met Nandhidhaa and her family members at the Secretariat and handed over the cheque for Rs 5 lakh.
