Government trained priests seek appointment

Government trained priests have moved the Madras High Court to evolve a scheme to appoint them in temples under the control of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department (HR&CE).

Justice V Parthiban before whom the petition came up issued notice to the state government returnable by two weeks. 

The petitioner Sabarinathan submitted that based on the government’s policy decision that all Hindus, who have the required training and qualification, can become archakas in all religious institutions under HR&CE and passed a GO in 2006.
