“We have not been invited or received any intimation of the visit. So, the ministers and other senior office-bearers are not going to meet him there as per his proposed schedule,” said Sreenivasan. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the ‘pandakkal’ installation ceremony for the forthcoming MGR birth centenary celebrations in Tiruvarur on Friday, the Minister said that there are several differences of opinion between Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami faction and former chief minister O Panneerselvam’s group.
However, he indicated that chances are bright for the merger of both the factions very shortly. Answering a querry on whether the ministers and the other AIADMK (Amma) faction leaders would be present during the meeting called by the deputy general secretary Dinakaran, Sreenivasan quipped that they were not invited by Dinakaran so far. “Still we have not received any communication from him and so, no one will attend the meeting scheduled on Saturday by him,” he stressed. Sreenivasan said that the Chief Minister has announced MGR birth centenary celebrations in all the 32 districts of the state.
The functions have been held in Madurai, Tirupur and Tiruvannamalai so far. “The celebrations have been received well by the people,” he claimed. Ministers R Kamaraj (Food), O S Manian (Handlooms), M R Vijayabhaskar (Transport), R Doraikkannu (Agriculture), P Thangamani (Electricity) and district collector L Nirmal Raj accompanied Sreenivasan during the ceremony on Friday. Later, the ministers inaugurated a few events, as part of MGR birth centenary celebrations and also conducted a review meeting at the collectorate for the proposed celebrations in the district on August 19.
