Stating that nearly 5,600 dengue positive cases were reported in the state this year, Dr Kolandaisamy, Director of Public Health, said that it was essential for the public to take cleanliness more seriously and consult doctors if they were unwell.
After the recent rains, Chennai, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram have been seeing some stray cases being reported. “We are undertaking dengue control measures. However, everyday a few cases are being reported from each of the three districts,” he added.
As Chennai invites cases from three to four districts, including Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Tiruvallur and even the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, the city hospitals are seeing around five to six dengue positive cases in any given day.
“The maximum cases this year are reported in Kanniyakumari, Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli, as well as in Salem and Erode districts. Over 100 persons with fever were admitted in the GH a few days ago. Though not diagnosed as dengue, it is essential to get checked immediately when you have fever. There are 90 testing facilities. We are trying to pick up every case,” stressed Kolandaisamy.
While the government Health Department has been working towards monitoring the cases, the Corporation too is keeping a thorough check, by getting reports from the Government Hospitals on a regular basis.
“We are working on three main aspects, which include the control of the aedes mosquito - for which public cooperation is highly essential, looking into the aspect of treatment seeking behaviour and lastly urging the public to avail of treatment from qualified doctors,” said Dr Senthil Nathan, Corporation Health Officer.
“Four cases of dengue positive were reported from the Institute of Child Health. Also, two cases were reported from Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital and two from Stanley on Friday,” he added.
“In case anyone needs any help or advice, they can call 104 Helpline,” said Kolandaisamy.
