Palanivel Thiagarajan has contended in his plea that www.tn.gov.in, the official website of the Tamil Nadu Government, was designed and developed by Tamil Nadu State Centre and National Informatics Centre. The website was uploaded with information like phone numbers and email addresses of the Council of Ministers.
This was updated until July 21 and suddenly from July 22 for reasons best known to the authorities concerned and to the shock and surprise of Tamil Nadu citizens, the official phone numbers and email addresses of the ministers were removed from the website.
Pointing out that the information is an official one therefore will not fall under the category of information exempted from disclosure as per law, the petitioner said, “the removal of the above information is in contravention of Right to Information Act 2005 and as such is illegal.” Stating that those in his constituency have brought to his notice that they are unable to send any information to the Ministers owing to the removal of the email address and phone numbers, Palanivel Thiagarajan said the action of the authorities is against public interest. The PIL is likely to be heard on Monday.
