National Highways officials said that such a utility will have all the information before any road project begins and even public, whose lands will be acquired can check the status of their lands on this website.

According to NH officials, Land Acquisition (LA) has been one of the main factors for causing delay during construction of flyovers, road over bridges and widening of roads. Further, the officials also face stern opposition from the residents and traders during land acquisition. It is also a known fact that most of the main NH projects are intermittently stalled because many of the projects are taken up without preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) leading to problems midway in construction.

“Realising this, the Union Ministry has come up with a plan by creating a web system for NH projects. In this website, details like land acquisition and compensation will be updated. Moreover, residents and traders can remain updated, if their lands are acquired,” said a NH official. The official added that such a move would give a shot in the arm for the National Highways, which could speed up projects in the coming days.

In connection with this website, the Union Ministry of Road Transport officials recently met engineers of NH wing in the state, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and revenue officials from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and sensitised them about the web system.

Mansoor Ui Haque, Director of National Informatics Centre, said that the web portal developed by the ministry would be user-friendly and would reduce the time consumption in the land acquisition procedure.
