TTV loyalist levels corruption charges against Minister

In what appears to be a new twist to the ongoing faction feud between Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami-led AIADMK (A) and the party deputy general secretary TTV Dinakaran faction, the latter’s ardent supporter and Perambur MLA P Vetrivel said there was no response to his complaint to the Chief Minister regarding a minister demanding commission from beneficiaries of the state.

Vetrivel told DT Next, “A lot of people have complained to me that when they seek marriage assistance announced by J Jayalalithaa under the “Thaalikku Thangam” scheme, the Minister demands a commission of Rs 5,000 for Rs 50,000 and 8 grams gold coin assistance or Rs 2,500 for Rs 25,000 and 4 grams gold coin.” Graduate brides are eligible for the former and diploma holders for the latter in the scheme, which became operational from 2011 to help the poor parents in arranging for their daughters’ marriage.

Vetrivel further said, “I met the Chief Minister a few days ago and apprised him of the state of affairs and instead of taking action, he told me to wait for a few more days. He also specifically asked me not to take the issue to the press and that he would inquire into the matter. But, as nothing has happened till date, I have now revealed the matter to the press.”
