The deceased identified as Jeyalingam, the owner, and Pandaram, the labourer, were at the shop which is located at a shopping complex near Thoothukudi new bus stand. At 9.45 pm, when Jeyalingam went out of the shop a seven-member gang in four bikes surrounded Jeyalingam and hacked him.

Pandaram rushed to save him but he too was hacked. Jeyalingam and Pandaram died on the spot. Thoothukudi SP, Mahendran, reached the spot and sent the bodies to Thoothukudi GH for post mortem.

Police sources said that the murder was due to some property dispute. They said that Rajendran who was a tenant at Jeyalingam’s house had created fake documents for Jeyalingam and had forced him to quit the house.

Jeyalingam approached the court and obtained an order to evacuate Rajendran. With the help of police, Rajendran was vacated from the house. Rajendran who was enraged at this had murdered Jeyalingam with the help of his aides, said police, who are in search of the accused.
