Samiran said that due to efforts from state and central governments the Sri Lankan government had agreed to release 42 boats of Tamil Nadu and Karaikal fishermen. Out of 42 boats, 36 belong to Tamil Nadu fishermen and the remaining six to Karaikal fishermen.
Out of the 36 boats, 27 boats are in good condition and they would be brought back to India. The Government had also agreed on minor expenses to repair the boats.
The team to bring back boats would soon go to Sri Lanka. The team would be taken to International Maritime Border Line (IMBL) by Coast Guard and would be handed over to Sri Lankan Navy who would take the team to the site where the boats are kept.
