‘Celebrities must motivate med course aspirants’

The Madras High Court on Thursday stated that it is only concerned with the mental wellfare of the students and parents who had been working tirelessly to secure a seat in medical college. It appealed to academic experts and film personalities to help motivate the students.

Justice N Kirubakaran, while dismissing a plea moved by a student who had scored 1184 marks in plus two to issue application for admission to MBBS for the academic year 2017-2018, said, “This court understands the sorrow and pain of the children for having not achieved their life’s ambition. Before anybody could take away wrong decision, it is the duty of the government to give counselling to those children and parents identifying them through their application. The government can also rope in prominent personalities through the media and advice the students against taking any wrong step. The celebrities and other experts should help to enccourage and motivate the students.” 

The judge added, “Though this court was of the impression that Centre, Medical Council of India, and state were responsible, a closer insepction would reveal that it is only the state ’s failure.”
