The plea moved by DMK candidate Dr Saravanan, who lost the poll to AIAIDMK candidate A K Bose had challenged the authenticity of the thumb impression left by the late former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in both Form A and Form B of the AIADMK candidate.

Lakhoni who appeared before Justice P Velmurugan deposed for nearly two hours answering queries raised by advocate Arunkumar appearing on behalf of Dr. Saravanan. After the questioning, the judge then adjourned the case for cross examination to September 1.

The core issue in the election petition revolves around the doubt raised by petitioner as to whether the former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was conscious when her left thumb impression was obtained in form A and B of AIADMK candidate as the same materially affected his poll prospects.
