Interim stay on proceedings against ex-cop

Madurai Bench of Madras High Court, on Wednesday, issued an interim stay of proceeding against a former police constable, who stood as a witness to the harassment of a woman police constable by a sub-inspector of police.

Chithiraipandi of Thoothukudi, in his petition, had stated that in 2014 sub-Inspector, Micheal Raj, attached to Serakulam police, had taken an abusive photograph of a woman constable working at the same police station and when the issue was investigated by the department, he had given statement against Micheal Raj. Because of his statement, Micheal Raj was suspended and following that Chithiraipandi was cornered by the police department. After he resigned and contested in 2016 Assembly election, fake cases were filed against him and he was tortured. Hence, the court should stay all the proceedings against him by the police department, prayed the petitioner.
