“The State would refer the nativity certificates produced by eligible students from Tamil Nadu who had studied in other States and those who come from other States but studied here to the respective district collectors who would verify the genuineness and the eligibility factor. It would also refer to respective States’ medical admission committees in both these categories to establish whether they were allocated seats under government quota. Deviations in either case would result in disqualification and cancellation of admission”, the release warned.
“A scrutinising committee had been set up in the counselling hall. They would verify the certificates provided by the students. It would also get an undertaking from the candidates stating that they had not sourced nativity certificate from other States and that they were not allocated seats under ‘All India quota’, or in any Deemed Universities or in any other State other than TN,” the release further said.
Dismissing the rumours of over 1,500 students from other States having secured seats in the counselling, the release reeled out statistics on medical admissions in the State. It stated that as many as 4546 students were admitted in medical admissions as on August 30. Of them, 4,090 students were from TN and studied here while 428 students werefrom other States but natives of TN and 28 students are from other States but studied here between Classes 8 and 12.
The figures of CBSE students admitted stood at 1,434 while those from State board of education stood at 3,112.
This newspaper reported on Thursday that even though NEET was introduced to create uniformity in the admission procedure to medical and dental colleges across the country, the purpose of the landmark move seemed to have been defeated as the eligibility criteria for students qualifying for a seat differed from state to state.
