Thangavel of Musiri Taluk in Trichy District in his plea on noting the announcement of the present Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy on August 17 that the late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s ‘Veda Nilayam’ in Poes Garden will be made a memorial, said the house of a convict involved in a criminal case cannot be made as a memorial and if it is made, it is illegal.
Referring to the observations made by the Supreme Court in the disproportionate wealth case that all financial transactions took place in Poes Garden, he said if such a place is converted into a memorial it will create a bad precedent.
Based on this, he sought to stay the conversion of Jayalalithaa’s residence into a memorial as well as quash the Chief Minister’s announcement in this regard.
