Crisis likely to spoil AIADMK chances in Cabinet reshuffle

While speculation was rife over AIADMK parliamentarians getting plum posts in the Cabinet reshuffle scheduled for September 3, recent developments in Tamil Nadu appear to have put a spanner in the works.

The rising clout of AIADMK (A) deputy general secretary TTV Dinakaran, who presently has the support of around 20 odd MLAs and who claims to have a similar number of “sleeper cells” and the active campaigns by other major political parties that AIADMK had become a stooge of the ruling NDA government at the Centre, have turned out to be major stumbling blocks for the ruling dispensation to join the NDA.

Dr V Maitreyan, MP, who was tipped as a front-runner for a cabinet berth, said “I have not received any news and am still in Chennai. Even if there was such a move, the party would first be informed and later the candidate himself would get a call from the Prime Minister inviting him/her to join the cabinet.”

AIADMK has 37 MPs in the Lok Sabha and 12 in the Rajya Sabha, the third highest number of MPs.
