Fire destroys two warehouses in Kovilpatti

Properties worth several lakhs were destroyed in a fire accident in two warehouses at Kovilpatti in Thoothukudi district, on Saturday.

The fire had started in the midnight at a cardboard warehouse situated opposite Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) office at Kovilpatti. The warehouse was owned by, Suresh Pandian.

After engulfing the properties of the warehouse, fire also spread to the neighbouring warehouse where furniture goods were stored. The fire also engulfed the entire warehouse which was owned by Murugan, of Kovilpatti. Properties worth several lakhs were destroyed in the fire.

In the meantime, onlookers and people who were passing by that road had informed Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services and the personnel from the department rushed to the spot and doused the fire on time.

They also ensured that it did not spread to the neighbouring buildings as a warehouse with chlorides and match box manufacturing industries were present nearby.

Kovilpatti West police have registered a case and are investigating
