A police official told Dt Next that lack of CCTV at the accident site has resulted in their inability to get details about the car. He said, “The one near Indira Nagar MRTS railway station was set up by IIT students for a survey and does not have recording facility. So, it was of no help. But we have collected footage from the surrounding areas and combing operations have begun to locate the car. The car will soon be identified and the driver will be arrested.”

The accident took place on Sunday afternoon, when Ramala and her daughter Belindha were on their way to Tiruvanmiyur from Kalikundram in Taramani on their two-wheeler. A luxury car hit them from behind and fled the spot. In the impact both fell on the road. While Ramala escaped with minor injuries, Belindha died on the spot.

Ramala reportedly told the police that she did not notice any vehicle on the road at the time of accident. Also, there was no major damage to her two-wheeler. So, the police are investigating whether the accident was caused by any other two-wheeler. Ramala’s husband Balakrishnan, who is working in the US, couldn’t return to India to attend to their kid’s last rites.

On Monday, Periaiah, Additional Commissioner (Traffic), inspected the accident spot near Central Polytechnic College in person and instructed the officials to nab the car driver at the earliest.
