It is said, a thatched pandal was erected in front of the Mannargudi office to distribute water and butter milk during the summer season. As the thatched roof caught fire in the early hours of Tuesday, the fire service personnel rushed to the spot and doused it.

Based on a complaint by the office incharge Sathyamurthy, the Mannargudi police have registered a case. Sathyamurthy, however, said in his complaint, the thatched pandal was set on fire due to inner party fight. It is said that the footage from the CCTV camera in the nearby bank shows, as soon as a man wearing a white vest approaches the AIADMK office, the camera was being covered with a cloth.

The footage also showed the man running after the thatched roof that caught fire. As the footage was not clear, it was difficult to identify the miscreant, police sources said.

Meanwhile, forensic experts collected evidences from the scene of the crime and also a sniffer dog was pressed into service. Sathyamurthy alleged that the Dinakaran’s faction district secretary S Kamaraj was behind the incident.
