With three key demands hundreds of members attached to various organisations affiliated to Joint Action Committee of Tamil Nadu Teachers’ Organisations - Government Employees’ Organisations (JACTTO-GEO) launched a waiting protest inside the Madurai Collectorate.
On the sidelines of the protest some of the officials collected money from others and began preparing food. The protesters were served tomato rice.
The protesters raised slogans and said if politicians can qualify for pension for just being in assembly for five years why officials for working for more than 30 years cannot qualify for a family pension scheme.
They said protests will be intensified in future if government fails to respond. Members of JACTTO-GEO had been protesting against new contributory pension scheme and to bring back family pension scheme for the past seven days. Despite High Court issuing interim ban to the protests they are continuing the protests in various forms including the road roko.
In Tiruchy, the members from JACTO-GEO staged a waiting protest across the districts. The JACTO-GEO constituents who were on indefinite strike from September 7 demanding scrapping of Contributory Pension Scheme and reintroduction of defined benefit pension scheme, the implementation of the pay commission recommendations, 20% interim relief and abolition of NEET gathered in front of the collectorate in large numbers. As per their schedule, they commenced a waiting protest in front of all the district Collectorate premises.
