BJP functionaries hold pro-NEET demonstrations
The State BJP unit on Friday held demonstrations in various parts of the city in support of NEET. The top brass of the party hit out at the opposition leaders, including DMK working president MK Stalin for resorting to caste politics in the state. In some areas, cadres staged protests only against the DMK.

BJP state president Tamilisai Soundararajan, who participated in the protest at Tambaram, said the party would be ready to stage counter-protests for all agitations staged by the DMK. “The DMK will never be alternative force in TN next time.
Although citizens of TN support opening Navodaya schools in the state and I fail to understand why leaders such as Stalin and VCK Chief Thol Thirumavalavan are opposing the move,” she questioned.
The BJP leader also stated that, “If the DMK president M Karunanidhi was active, he would have supported NEET.” Tamilisai also paid homage to Anitha, the MBBS aspirant who had committed suicide in Ariyalur.
Similarly, H Raja, the National Secretary of BJP, who headed the demonstration in Valluvar Kottam said, “The party has emerged strong in states like Odisha and Tripura, where it previously failed to make a mark. Will this situation prevail in Tamil Nadu,” he asked, hoping the BJP comes to power here.
“Some fringe parties are raking up past incidents to prevent BJP from gaining a foothold in TN,” he added. Remarking that the state government had sought exemption from NEET during the last academic year and that the Centre had granted the same, the national secretary charged that some ‘letter-pad’ political parties did not understand the ground reality.
“Some activists who called for NEET exemption run medical colleges and are corrupt,” he said. During the protests, state BJP general secretary, KT Raghavan said “though the Dravidian parties have so far been ruling the state, people are aware of their political tactics. So, the BJP will emerge as a strong contender next elections.”
Likewise, the Chennai district functionaries of the party held demonstration at the Central Railway station, Collector’s office, Red Hills and Tondiarpet. The cadre also raised slogans against Stalin and Thol Thirumavalavan.
