Anitha’s death: Panel to file report in 15 days

A team of officials from National SC/ST Commission led by its Vice Chairman L Murugan, who visited Anitha’s house on Saturday, said that an inquiry commission led by the District Collector and the Superintendent of Police to probe the death is formed and it is likely to submit its report within 15 days.

The National SC/ST Commission, initiated suo motu inquiry into the death of the medical aspirant Anitha of Kuzhumur in Ariyalur, who opposed the move to make NEET mandatory for medical admissions. 

SC/ST Commission Vice Charman L Murugan, Director (Tamil Nadu) M Madhiyazhagan, Senior Investigators A Iniyan and S Lister were part of the team that visited Anitha’s house. District Collector K Lakshmi Priya, SP Abinav Kumar and RDO Tina Kumari accompanied them.

The family members, including Anitha’s father Shanmugam and brother Manirathinam, said that she was dejected after the results of NEET in which she had scored less marks.

Later, Murugan told reporters that the Commission had recorded the statements of the family members. “We will recommend a compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the family.

He also assured to the recommend employment to a family member as it was demanded by them.
