697-page report on illegal granite mining filed at Melur Court
The State government, on Wednesday, submitted a 697-page report on illegal granite mining in Madurai district at Melur court.

Also, there are 168 cases filed by former Madurai Collector Subramanian, seeking permission to take all the granite stones stored at various private warehouses under government custody. These 168 cases are also heard by Melur court.
Special government pleader Sheela had already appeared for the case and submitted a 74-page charge sheet in the case at the court. On Wednesday, Sheela along with DSP Gurusamy and Revenue Inspector Vetri filed a 697-page report on illegal granite mining in connection with two cases against 39 accused, including PR Palanisami. The total loss to the government under illegal granite mining in the two cases had been fixed at Rs.718.36 crore.
In the first case, a 520-page report against 14 persons had been filed and the loss for the state government is pegged at Rs.717.52 crore. The case is connected to illegal granite mining in the two villages of Nallikulam near Saruguvelanpatti and Suttipanayankulam near Keezhavalavu.
In the second case, 177-page report was filed against 25 persons and the loss to government is pegged at Rs.83.6 lakh. The case is connected to illegal granite mining of PRP Exports run by P.R.Palanisami in Aranan Thozhuvan Kanmai, Mangulam Kanmai and Iluppaikudi Kalvai. The report states that all three water bodies were destroyed by P.R.P Exports company.
