Similarly, 50 centres would also be opened within the limits of the Greater Chennai Corporation but they would function from the end of October in a bid to ramp up sales, they added.

While state dairy minister TK Rajenthira Balaji inaugurated new sweet varieties on Friday, officials said the federation planned to produce and market gift boxes having seven varieties of sweets for the first time, this festive season. “Each box would be priced around Rs 500” they added.

Federation officials have been buoyed up by the increase in sales of the 225 ml milk sachet priced at Rs 10 which has been welcomed by elderly citizens, office goers and students. “We sell 50,000 packets daily,” officials said and added that if this trend continued, they would be able to triple the original sales of 25,000 sachets before the end of October.
