Muniandi of Ponmalai was living with his children Krishnaveni (13) and Karthik (13) in Tiruchy along with this wife. Being a washerman, he did not earn much. Therefore, he sent his wife Nagalakshmi (32) to Saudi Arabia as a house maid in 2014 through a travel agent located at Kattur, Fathimapuram in Tiruchy.

“After she reached there, she sent us her salary for two months. She even spoke to us over phone. However, she did not contact us later. Though we tried to reach out to her several times, it was an exercise in futility. We therefore contacted the travel agency and requested them to trace her. But, they did not help us,” said Muniandi.

After all their attempts to contact Nagalakshmi went in vain, Muniandi approached the City Commissioner A Arun and narrated the incident. The Commissioner immediately ordered for an investigation. “As soon as the commissioner passed orders, the travel agent escaped,” Muniandi said. Muniandi was left with little choice but to approach the district Collector K Rajamani and submit a petition to him appealing to trace his wife Nagalakshmi.
