No need for CBI probe into Jaya’s death: BJP state president Tamilisai Soundarrajan
Speaking to the media here on Wednesday, Tamilisai, who is rarely critical of the state government, which is seen as an ally of her party, said the ministers had come out with conflicting statements on the treatment and death of Jayalalithaa. While a few ministers were saying that they met their leader during treatment, some others were saying that they were not allowed to see the leader.

The AIADMK (Amma) leaders should not try to make political gain out of Jayalalithaa’s death, she said and added that it would be the duty of the state government to dispel the doubts among the people. Suspicions were being raised over the treatment given to her and the cause of her death and such apprehensions should be resolved, Tamilisai said.
Rejecting demands for a CBI enquiry into the death of former Chief Minister, she said a judicial probe headed by a retired HC judge would be sufficient to bring out the truth.
She further said the ministers and those involved with the treatment should speak to the enquiry commission about what they wanted to say on Jayalalithaa’s treatment. The purpose of the commission would be to answer the doubts of people and using it for political gains would not be a proper act.
Citing the statements of ministers that they did not go inside the ward where Jayalalithaa was being treated, she said even the close relatives of the former Chief Minister were saying that they did not see Jayalalithaa during treatment. Apollo Hospitals has the responsibility to disclose who was looking after Jayalalithaa during the time of treatment, she remarked.
The treatment given to the former Chief Minister and her death had resurfaced after the remarks of Forest minister Dindigul C Seenivasan, who said the ministers had lied to the people on the health conditions of their departed leader following the instructions of Sasikala’s family. He had also asserted that the ministers were not allowed to see Jayalalithaa and parroted the information given by Sasikala’s family.

State Congress president Su Thirunavukkarasar on Wednesday said that the commission of inquiry constituted to investigate former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s death should also probe why Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not visit Apollo Hospitals despite her being kept there for over 70 days.
“The Prime Minister should have inquired about her health condition. The CM was in hospital for over 70 days, but the PM did not visit her?” Thirunavukkarasar asked, while talking to media persons in the city.
“People from New Delhi had also visited her. They should also be investigated,” the TNCC chief said, apparently referring to a few BJP ministers wo had visited Apollo then. Thirunavukkarasar also suggested that a medical committee (of experts) should be formed to assist the commission of inquiry in culling out the truth behind Jayalalithaa’s death.
Content with inquiry
Notably, the state Congress chief seemed to be content with a retired Madras High Court judge Armughasamy heading the commission of inquiry, contrary to his alliance partner and DMK working president M K Stalin’s demand that the commission would not do justice and only the CBI would be the right agency to do the job, more so when doctors from London, Singapore and New Delhi were required to be investigated on the issue. Thirunavukkarasar’s approbation comes a day after the deputy leader of opposition Duraimurugan said the commission would only ‘write’ what the government says (in its report).
