The police are blaming the ministerial staff for the delay as salary details were not sent to the treasury on time. “It should have been sent to the treasury by September 21 or 22. It has not happened this time because the police and ministerial staff were busy with some government function or the other. So, the disbursal of pay got delayed,” noted a retired sub inspector who had been pushing the case with the district superintendent of police since Sunday.
While police sources noted that nearly 2,000 police personnel attached to different wings including law and order, district armed reserve, district crime branch, PEW, special branch had not received their salary, a senior police official, however, claimed that police personnel are yet to receive their salary due to some administrative reason. There was some delay from treasury side to clear the bills, the officer added.
“Even though senior officials came to know about the situation on Sunday, they were not in aposition to help their sobordinates immediately because of the long week end. We hope that they will do something about it at least on Tuesday,” a head constable said.
When DT Next contacted Nagapattinam SP, Deshmukh Sekhar Sanjay, he assured that he would certainly look into the issue and sort it out.
