An official from Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) Chennai said that the overlay cycle was in the areas adjoining southern Karnataka and northern Tamil Nadu.
“Rain is expected all across TN. There will be isolated heavy downpour in the northern parts of the state and Puducherry, due to the east-west shear zone. The north-south trough runs from Telangana to South Tamil Nadu across interior parts of the state at 1.5 km above mean sea level. In Chennai, rain or thundershowers may occur in some areas and the metropolis will be generally cloudy. The maximum temperature is 34 degrees Celsius and minimum temperature is 26 degrees Celsius,” said the official.
Weather blogger K Srikanth, who blogs at Chennaiyil Oru Mazhaikkaalam (COMK), said, “There is an upper air circulation in the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea. Models indicate possibility of a low-pressure formation, which might move towards central India. After this, south west monsoons are likely to withdraw. Interior Tamil Nadu will continue to get rains, but coastal areas could get lesser rains. This is due to the wind pattern, which is slightly southernly than westerly, due to the pattern created by the circulation.”
