History-sheeter attacks cops, shot at in Thoothukudi

In a dramatic turn of events a history-sheeter who attacked the policemen when they tried to nab him, was shot at on his thigh and was secured at Thoothukudi, on Monday.

Police said the history-sheeter identified as Muthukumar (45) from Athimarapatti near Thoothukui, had five murder cases including a double murder case against him. Also, he had several cases of threat on him and recently he was involved in an attempt to murder case. 

Police had received the information that Muthukumar had visited his house early in the morning. Police personnel immediately went to his house. However, he hid in the bushes nearby. 

But, the police personnel surrounded him. In order to save himself, he began to attack the policemen with a sickle. In the tussle two policemen, including a Sub Inspector, Rennis, suffered injuries. To bring the situation under control, police shot three bullets and one of the bullets hit the left thigh of Muthukumar, who fell on the ground. 

Along with Muthukumar, two of the injured policemen were rushed to Thoothukudi GH for treatment. Thoothukudi SP, Mahendran visited the hospital and inquired about the health of the policemen. Muthiapuram police are investigating the incident. Muthukumar would be arrested after discharge, said the police.
