Blaming that adequate time was not given to convene the meeting, Stalin, replying to CM’s secretary P Senthilkumar’s letter inviting him for the meeting, said, the letter only contained the names of applicants and not their bio-data.
Accusing the government of deliberately sending invites for the meeting on a short notice (two days), the DMK working president said that it has led him to doubt if the meeting were convened to ascertain committee members’ constructive views on the qualification of the applicants.
Remarking that the Speaker of the State Assembly has been made a member of the selection committee only to ensure transparency and impartiality in appointment of SHRC members, Stalin said that expressing one’s views in a selection committee comprising the Speaker, who has been functioning partially and in violation of laws by joining hands with the CM of late, would not serve the honest purpose of appointing qualified members for the SHRC.
