Three children succumb in Kovai, Salem

The death toll due to suspected dengue continues unabated as three children succumbed to fever in Coimbatore and Salem districts on Monday.

In Coimbatore, Arundathi, 13, daughter of Gunasekaran and Shanthi from Dharapuram died of suspected dengue at Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH). The girl and her eleven-year old brother were under treatment at a private hospital for fever over the last one week. Though the boy recovered, Arundathi’s fever intensified and she was shifted to CMCH, where she died. 

In Salem district, two children succumbed to suspected dengue on Monday. Rakshita (10) was admitted to a private hospital for fever but she succumbed to suspected dengue. Similarly, G Sivasakthivel, 11, from Singarapettai was brought to Salem GH in a critical condition and he died without responding to treatment.  More than 15 persons, mostly children, have died of fever at GH and in private hospitals in Salem over the last two weeks.
