According to the weathermen, as most parts of interior Tamil Nadu continue to experience thunderstorms, coastal areas were left to experience the spillover of thunderstorms.
Further, while Chennai has, over the last few days seen only blink and miss storms, areas about 30 km from the coast have witnessed moderate to heavy rain at times.
Speaking to DT Next, S Balachandran, Director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, RMC, said, “Since the cyclone in central Bay of Bengal is moving towards Western side, it will pave the way for rain across the state for two more days. As far as Chennai is concerned, there will be a light rain in a few pockets.”
K Srikanth, a city-based weather blogger, said, “With an upper air cyclonic circulation in Bay, the wind pattern has slightly become favourable for the coastal areas like delta districts and other regions, for a thunderstorm or two. Some models also indicate that parts of West interior Tamil Nadu could also benefit from these conditions. There are also indications that Chennai could come under marginal low-level convergence zone on Friday night, improving its chances of a rain compared to the last few days,” he added.
