Four held for gang-rape near Koovathur

In a shocking incident that reminds the brutal Delhi gang rape, a 22-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by six men in Kancheepuram district on Wednesday and police have reportedly detained four of the accused.
The victim from Seekanankuppam village was on her way back home from Koovathur with her friend on a two-wheeler after work when they were followed by a six-member gang. In a secluded place, they intercepted them and attacked the male friend.
Later, the men allegedly raped the woman and abandoned her at the same spot after three hours before fleeing. After the incident, the victim and her friend went to their relative’s house in Koovathur and told them about what had happened.
An official complaint was lodged at Koovathur police station, but was transferred to Anaikattu police station under whose jurisdiction the spot of the attack comes under.
Swinging into action, Anaikattu police have reportedly detained four men Bheema Rao, Dineshkumar, Dakshinamoorthy and Kathiravan and are interrogating them. A hunt is on for two more men involved in the brutal attack.
