5 murdered in Madurai during Deepavali
Five persons including a 17-year-old Dalit boy were murdered at Madurai on Deepavali day. Police sources said Arokyadass, a resident of Ellis Nagar, had previous enmity with Samydurai and his family members. It was because Samydurai’s son Muthupandi (23) was in love with Arokyadass’s daughter.

On Wednesday, Arokyadass’s 17-year-old son, Sekar, a Class 11 student, came to Vaikom Periyar Nagar to greet his friends for Deepavali. When Sekar reached the area, Samydurai, their relative Selvakumar and Muthupandi kidnapped him.
Based on the complaint of Arokyadass, Silaiman police registered a case against Samydurai, Selvakumar and Muthupandi. Later in the night, Sekar was found dead by the police. Samydurai and Selvakumar have been detained for further investigations.
In another incident, Bharath Kumar (25), a resident of Ammankovilpatti village near Melur in Madurai district, was murdered on Wednesday. Bharath went to bathe in a water tank in their village along with his younger brother, Balamurugan. On seeing Bharath, Rajapandi, Karthik, Naveenraj and Kannan, picked up a quarrel with him and assaulted him. When Balamurugan interfered, the gang stabbed him with a broken liquor bottle. Balamurugan sustained fatal injuries and was taken to Melur Government Hospital. But he was declared brought dead. F Eelavalavu police have booked a case.
Kadupatti police have booked a case of murder against six people in Madurai district. Chelladurai (27), from Mullipallam village near Samayanallur in Madurai district, was working as a load man in a coconut farm at the village. Six persons, Sivakumar, Muthukrishnan, Muthukannan, Muniswaran, Maruthupandi and Mariselvam who were working as load men under Chelladurai were not given work by Chelladurai and this led to enmity between them. On Wednesday evening, all six together assaulted Chelladurai with a knife. Chelladurai sustained severe injuries and died on the spot.
Found dead
Manikandan (39), a daily wage labourer, a resident of Keelanachikulam village near Sholavandan in Madurai district was living alone due to family dispute. During the early hours of Thursday, Manikandan’s brother Senthil went to his house and found Manikandan dead with injuries. Based on Senthil’s complaint, Sholavandan police booked case.
Marimuthu (32), an auto driver and a history sheeter, a resident of Melavasal in Madurai was found murdered at Thideer Nagar in the early hours of Thursday.
On information, police personnel sent his body to Government Rajaji Hospital for post-mortem. Thideer Nagar police have booked a case.
