It is said, there was frequent quarrel between two gangs, in Murugan Koil street and Balamman Koil street, in E-Pudur in the city. Sakthi from Balamman koil street had shifted his residence to Murugan Koil street on October 17 and he was sitting outside his house. On seeing him, Honest Raja of Murugan Koil street picked a quarrel during which, Sakthi reportedly assaulted Honest Raja’s friend Antony. They left after elders in the area pacified them.

On Deepavali, Honest Raja, along with his friends, was consuming liquor at Chettiyapatti outlet. Sakthi and his friends came there for consuming alcohol and began quarrelling with Honest Raja and his group.

Suddenly, Honest Raja’s friend Kevin Vignesh (21) stabbed Sakthi’s friends Vallarasu and Chandru with a knife and escaped from the spot. Infuriated over this, Sakthi and his friends chased Kevin Vignesh. They assaulted him with sharp weapons. Kevin suffered severe cut injuries in his head and fell down unconscious.

On information, E-Pudur police came to the spot and rushed Kevin to the GH. However, he succumbed to injuries on the way.

Meanwhile, police registered a case against eight persons including Sakthi who was arrested along with his friends Ranjith, Chandru and Vallarasu.

Police also arrested Kevin’s friends Honest Raja, Ajeesh, Abu, Antony, Gowtham and Selvakumar. The injured Vallarasu and Chandru are undergoing treatment.

3 killed by gang in Pondy

Three persons were killed after a 15-member gang hurled crude bombs and hacked them at nearby Mettupalayam village in Puducherry, police said. They said the trio were celebrating Deepavali and consuming some liquor last night when the gang arrived at the spot and hurled crude bombs, killing one of them on the spot. The gang then hacked the other two persons to death and fled the area, police said.

Police suspect previous enmity between the deceased and the gang could have been the reason for the crime. The deceased were reportedly daily wage earners.
