The division is acute in Kanniyakumari district, where the AIADMK lost all the six seats in the 2016 Assembly elections. The cracks surfaced at the consultation meetings to organise the MGR centenary celebrations scheduled for November 8. The participation of the Chief Minister had been made public and there is no information about the presence of Panneerselvam.
Rajya Sabha MP and Kanniyakumari district secretary Vijayakumar is coordinating the function, but the functionaries, who supported Panneerselvam during the split, were working on their own.
The two groups held separate consultation meeting for the MGR centenary celebrations scheduled for November 8.
While the district secretary had announced the consultation meeting on another date, Panneerselvam supporters conducted a separate meeting to discuss the ways and means to organise the function. This has created confusion among the AIADMK cadre in the organisation of the MGR centenary celebrations in the district.
