CM orders opening of Manimuktha, Aliyar reservoirs
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Friday ordered release of water for agricultural purposes from Aliyar and Manimuktha reservoirs.

A release said that the Chief Minister was in receipt of requests from various quarters of the agricultural community to release water for both old and new areas, which come under the irrigation of Manimuktha reservoir in Villupuram district.
He said that the water would be released from Monday onwards for irrigating an expanse of 5,493 acres. He also suggested that the farmers make judicious use of water and better water management practices for greater yield.
“Similar requests were received from the farmers, who come under the second irrigational coverage areas of Pollachi canal, Vettaikaran Pudur canal, Sethumadai canal and the Aliyar Ootu canals,” he said.
“I had ordered the water to be released from October 25. This would cover as much as 22,332 acres of cultivation and benefit the farmers,” Palaniswami added.
