Beautician, ganja peddler murdered in Kovilpatti, Kovai

While a woman running a beauty parlour was murdered in Kovilpatti in Thoothukudi on Sunday, two persons, a young woman and a ganja peddler, were murdered in separate incidents in Coimbatore.

In Kovilpatti, the woman, identified as Ambika, was found dead and a woman worker was found lying unconscious with injuries. Ambika was running the beauty parlour at Karuppasamy Temple Street in Kovilpatti. Her husband Murugaraj is a retired government employee. 

On Sunday night, Murugaraj had called his wife as she did not return home at the stipulated time from the parlour. When he went to the parlour, he was shocked to find his wife lying dead. 

Murugaraj informed the police, who retrieved the body and sent it for post-mortem. Police said that seven sovereigns of jewels worn by Ambika was missing. 

Accused surrender 

In the murder case of former AIADMK Councillor, Ganesan, Madurai Police arrested two persons while four others surrendered before the Judicial Magistrate-II at Madurai. The arrested persons were identified as Karthick and Damodaran. 

Two killed in Kovai 

A young woman and a ganja peddler were murdered in separate incidents in Coimbatore. 

A 26-year-old software engineer was arrested by police for murdering his girlfriend after taking her on a trip to Kallar near Mettupalayam a week ago in Coimbatore. 

Police said the accused Prashant, a software engineer from Saravanampatty took the victim Rushwana, 21, from Velandipalayam on a trip to Kallar area. “When a quarrel broke out between them, Prashant slapped her hard and she fell down. Her head landed on a stone resulting in her death,” police said. 

Prashant disfigured the face by hitting it with a boulder, buried the body and left home. Following a complaint from the family members of the girl on October 16, the police registered a case and traced the culprit on Monday. A special team of police exhumed the body and sent it for post-mortem. 

Hacked to death 

In another incident, a 22-year-old ganja peddler was hacked to death by his friend in Sulur on Coimbatore suburbs. Police said Sethuraman, a native of Madurai, had settled down in a rented house along with Karikalan, 32, from Nallampalayam in Coimbatore, at Neelambur area a few weeks ago. 

On hearing some loud noise, the house owner Sugumar and his wife Shanthi, had gone to check only to find Sethuraman lying dead in a pool of blood. 

Police said Karikalan along with an unidentified woman and a youth had fled from the scene. The Sulur police, on receiving information, had rushed to the spot and sent the body of the youth for post-mortem. There were cut injuries on the body of the deceased. A blood-stained sickle and 6 kg of ganja packets were seized from the house. 

2 men slit Class 6 girl’s throat 

Two unidentified youths attempted to murder an 11-year-old girl by slitting her throat in Tirupur district on Monday. Police said, the girl, daughter of a mill worker from Nambiyampalayam near Avinashi, on her way to school, when two youths followed her on a bike and slit her throat with a hacksaw blade. She was taken to Avinashi GH by public for treatment. Avinashi police have registered a case.
