Three arrested for Nellai family suicide
Police arrested a lady financier, her husband and their aide who were behind the suicide of three persons of the same family in Tirunelveli, on Monday.

The accused were identified as Muthulakshmi, the financier, her husband, Dhalavai Raj, and their aide, ‘Sona’ Kali. Palayamkottai police had booked them under Section 306, 511 of the IPC and Section 4 of Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Charging Exorbitant Interest Act. All three were arrested and taken to the Palayamkottai police station.
Meanwhile, Tirunelveli Collector, Sandeep Nanduri, who visited the Palayamkottai GH to inquire the health condition of the family members, was visibly upset on see
ing them. Addressing the media, Sandeep Nanduri said that they had only preliminary details about the case and a detailed investigation would be conducted soon.
Revenue Department along with the police will work together in the case. Also, a dedicated helpline for usury cases would be launched soon with the help of the police department, said the Collector.
The authorities announced that a separate centre will be set up to help those affected by usury.
He also said that a special team comprising officials from police and revenue department, would be formed and a centre will be set up to help those affected by usury.
The incident had sent shock waves across the state. Social activists and politicians had condemned the practice of usury and demanded the police department to take stringent action on the people who are indulging in it. MDMK leader, Vaiko, in a statement, said that though the act prohibiting from charging exorbitant rate of interest was enacted in 2003, it is still prevalent and the financiers are thriving with the help of the Policemen who guard the financiers involved in usury and act against common people.
