Anti-dengue fines: Rs 41 lakhs collected

Continuing its ‘fining spree’ as part of the anti-dengue drive, the Salem Corporation, on Wednesday, slapped a penalty of Rs 41 lakhs on private establishments, bus terminus, hotel, a women’s college, school, cinema complex and other establishments in all the four zones of the Corporation.

“A 24 hour deadline has been set up. Another inspection will be done to ensure their compliance,” said an official. The Collector said the fine amount should be paid within the stipulated time.

Granite quarry: 

Madurai and Virudhunagar district administrations have levied a fine of Rs 1 lakh on a granite quarry and a plastic warehouse respectively. Collector K Veera Raghav Rao, during the raid at a granite quarry, found water stagnated in the quarry. 

Similarly, at Arupukottai, officials of Virudhunagar district administration raided a plastic warehouse and found several breeding sources of the Aedes mosquitoes. The warehouse was sealed and a fine of Rs.1 lakh was levied on it.
