CM Edappadi Palaniswami lays stone for Rs 3 crore diaphragm wall across Malattar
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Saturday laid the foundation stone for a diaphragm wall across Malattar river at Pernambattu in Vellore district through video-conferencing from the Secretariat. The estimated cost of the project is about Rs 3 crore, an official press release here said.

The wall would be built for a length of 150 metres and its height would be 10 metres. It would help irrigate 377 acres of land and raise the ground water level in the area. The stored water would provide drinking water to Ambur, Pernambut, Machigam and Kailasagiri.
The CM, who is also the PWD Minister, also laid the foundation stone for a project to recharge ground water at Chinnasalem in Villupuram at a cost of Rs 1.9 crore. It would irrigate 124 acres.
Thanjavur by-pass opened
Palaniswami, who is also in charge of Highways department, opened the Thanjavur by-pass road laid at a cost of Rs 42 crore through video-conferencing, besides unveiling a railway bridge at Thiruvaiyaru in Thanjavur at an estimated cost of Rs 29 crore and a bridge across the river Malattur at Tirukkoyilur in Villupuram at an expense of Rs 2 crore.
He also presented appointment orders for newly recruited assistant commissioners for the Commercial Taxes department.
