‘Regularise 13 employees in Central Institute of Classical Tamil’
The Madras High Court has directed the State to regularise the services of all the 13 employees appointed to the Central Institute of Classical Tamil by the Ministry of Human Resources Development in 2007.

Justice V Parthiban, who set aside the notification issued by the Central Institute of Classical Tamil on October 17, 2012 calling for applications for appointment of various posts in his order said, “The appointment of the petitioners which was made after due selection process cannot either be termed as illegal or irregular and therefore the petitioners have made out a case for grant of relief. In the upshot, this court has no hesitation to allow the writ petitions.
The judge also directed the authorities to take up the claim of the petitioners for regularisation of their services in their respective cadres and issue necessary instructions within four months. The matter relates to establishing a Central Institute of Classical Tamil by Government of India to recognise Tamil as a classical language.
Petition seeking direction to restrain taking students to MGR Centenary function filed
A plea seeking the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court to restrain students from participating in MGR centenary function was filed. Acting on the petition, the court, on Tuesday, had in a notice directed the DGP to file a counter affidavit on November 3.
Petitioner Selvam from Periyakulam in Theni district, in his petition, had requested the government not to force students to participate in political events.On October 24, at the MGR centenary function in Theni, school students were forced to attend the meeting and some of them had to walk for miles to the venue. Students were also not given any facilities, including first aid. This caused them a lot of hardships.
“The next MGR centenary function is scheduled at Bodi Post in Theni district on November 5. I pray that students should not be forced to attend it,” said the petitioner.
