Media is 4th pillar of democracy: PM message to Daily Thanthi
In a letter congratulating Daily Thanthi on its 75th anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appreciated the role of media in a democracy and highlighted its mission in impacting societal changes.

Modi, who has graciously accepted to be the Chief Guest at the 75th anniversary celebrations of the Daily Thanthi newspaper on November 6, 2017, in Chennai, sent a letter appreciating the role of media and the newspaper’s pioneering contribution to print media.
He wrote: “Your newspaper is built on years of hard work and perseverance to bring voices from all walks of life to the forefront. Media, as the fourth pillar of democracy, has an important role. It bears on its shoulders the responsibility to impact societal change through its reporting. As part of the Fourth Estate, your organisation has raised awareness on a number of issues concerning our society. I am positive that your continued efforts in this regard would help contribute to the fulfilment of our collective vision of a New India.”
The PM will attend the celebrations to be held at the Madras University Centenary auditorium. The event will also be attended by Union Minister for Defence Nirmala Sitharaman, Governor of TN Banwarilal Purohit and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami. A number of VIPs, dignitaries and industrialists will also be present.
