Speaking to reporters after holding a review meeting with officials at the Tangedco headquarters here, the Minister said out of the 1,541 power supply lines in the city, supply for only 128 lines had been stopped. He also said he would take responsibility if the there was no response for complaints related to electricity from the public.

The heavy showers on Thursday did not affect power distribution works, but supply was stopped at 128 inundated areas, he said and added that electricity connection was restored at 93 areas.

The Minister said he had already directed the department personnel to inspect the 80,000 pillar boxes in Chennai and they were being carried out on a priority basis. A special team was carrying out the inspection works for the last two days. Thangamani strongly denied that the accident at Kodungaiyur, where two children died, was due to the pillar box and assured that action had been taken to stop recurrence of such incidents. He inspected various parts of the city and the relief camp near Koyambedu Metro station.
