They were given all the details through the e-learning platform hosted by the civic body here and the commissioner acclaimed the active participation by the public to maintain the ranking. City Corporation Commissioner N Ravichandran, while explaining the strategy adopted by the civic body, said that it is taking the help of Women Self Help Groups (WSHGs) to successfully implement the solid waste management in the city.

He also stated that the residents are committed to improving the ranking by supporting the citizen portals as Swachhata-MoHUA, introduced by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). “We have already received critical acclaim from the Union government for methods like use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) in vehicles to track garbage collection and e-learning platform, where anyone from across India, can learn and share ideas about cleanliness and sanitation,” said the commissioner.

The commissioner also shared details about the steps taken by the civic body to create awareness among the people.

Stating that the door-to door segregation of waste has become a great success with the residents’ support, the civic body has achieved more than 50 per cent coverage.

While the non-degradable wastes are collected every Wednesday, to be sold by the SHGs for recycling, the profit would be shared among them.

The officials represented urban local bodies across India like the Municipal Corporations from Bhopal, Ahmedabad, Mahe, Mohali, Nagpur, Coimbatore, Mysore, Rajkot, Surat, and Pimpri Chinchwad. Also, officials from Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and other civic bodies like South Delhi, Vijayawada, Chanlang and Khonsa were present.
