Rs 2,000 crore chit scam: Key accused surrenders

The prime accused in the Nirmal Krishna Nidhi chit scam K Nirmalan alias Nirmal Krishna surrendered at a special court on Wednesday.

Krishna, the owner of Nirmal Krishna Nidhi Ltd, had swindled funds to the tune of Rs 2,000 crore from over 16,000 investors and had absconded with the amount. 

On Wednesday morning, his surrender petition was filed at the Special Court formed under Tamil Nadu Protection of Interests of Depositors (TNPID) Act in Madurai and he surrendered in the afternoon before Justice Meera Sumathi. 

Following his surrender, his records were verified and he was remanded for 15 days till November 29. The scam had come to light in September.
