Chinese hard sell boat engines to fishermen

In a first for Rameswaram, two Chinese engineers Rafa and Liu Chang from Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Company visited fishermen to sell high-powered engines for the newly-designed deep-sea fishing vessels. They also explained to them how the motor mechanism functioned.

With the help of laptops, the duo used 3D projections of the engine models to describe the various nitty gritty of the devices. 

Sesu Raja, president, Rameswaram Mechanised Boat Fishermen Association, said, at present, they were using engines from a renowned Indian manufacturer but have also approached other big companies like Yanmar and Sonatra for high-powered engines. 

According to the duo, engines ranging from 150 hp to 500 hp cost around Rs 6.5 to 8 lakh. Raja later told the Chinese engineers that the proposal would be placed before the Fisheries Department for necessary approval.
